Hyderabad: A man climbed atop a high tension power transmission tower at Langar Houz on Saturday night creating flutter among the public.

Simhachalam, 50, who works as a mason, went to the Musi River bed under Langar Houz police station limits and climbed the high tension power transmission tower. Alerted by the locals, police reached the spot and made attempts to persuade him to come down. The power supply was also disconnected.

After their efforts failed, the police called in the fire department personnel who arrived at the spot along with hydraulic cranes to reach the height. When the crane could not reach the height, the fire department and GHMC DRF teams spread nets to prevent the man from sustaining injuries if he jumped from the height.

The police then called in the workers of the TS TRANSCO who wearing safety gear climbed the tower and persuaded the man to come down. Simhachalam told the police that he works as a mason and the contractor with whom he worked did not give him wages resulting in an argument during which he was allegedly thrashed.

“To escape the beating, he rushed towards the power transmission tower and climbed it,” said the police.

The man who was in an inebriated condition was handed over to his family members by the police. A case is booked.
