Hyderabad: A one-and-a-half-year-old baby girl was found dead in her house at Bandlaguda in Rajendranagar late on Thursday. Doctors have indicated that she could have been throttled to death, following which police have altered the case to murder and suspect the role of the infant’s mother, who has gone absconding.
The couple, K Srinivas, who works for a bike-ride service provider, and his wife Sai Latha, had two daughters and a son. According to the police, Srinivas had gone to work leaving his wife and children at home on Thursday. Sai Latha told her husband and relatives that she had left the infant, Manasri, and her siblings at home to go to a nearby shop. When she returned, she found the infant unconscious. She called Srinivas, who rushed home and took Manasri to Niloufer Hospital, where doctors declared her dead. They observed slight impressions on her neck and raised suspicion that she may have been throttled to death.
The Rajendranagar police said an autopsy at the Osmania General Hospital morgue confirmed that the child was throttled. “Based on the forensic medicine doctor’s opinion, the case was altered to that of murder and is being investigated. Clues have been collected from the spot. The child’s father strongly suspects the mother for the murder,” an official said, adding that she had a drinking habit and often neglected the child. The suspicions were strengthened when Sai Latha went absconding. Efforts are on to trace her.
