Hyderabad: The Task Force and with the Kanchanbagh police busted an interstate drug peddling racket and arrested four persons here on Friday. Police seized 80 kg of marijuana from them.
The arrested persons were Shaik Mehraj (24), a flower vendor, Abdul Raoof (29), an auto driver, both from Chandrayangutta, Shafiq Khan Sarfaraj Khan (40) and Irfan Ali (30), both from Nagpur in Maharashtra. Two suspects, Nadeem and Dragon alias Owais, both from Hyderabad, were absconding.
According to the police, Mehraj, who was earlier arrested in a chain snatching case in Cyberabad and a robbery case in Karnataka, had met the others while in jail and after being released, started peddling marijuana to Telangana and Maharashtra.
“He arranged an SUV on a rental basis to smuggle marijuana from Visakhapatnam to Hyderabad and Nagpur. He procured the drug with the help of Nadeem,” police said, adding that it was following a tip-off that a police team intercepted the car at Kanchanbagh and nabbed the gang.
