Hyderabad: Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) busted a marijuana smuggling network spread across many States with the arrest of three persons at the Outer Ring Road (ORR) here.
As much as 3,400 kg of high grade marijuana was seized from a truck. Based on specific intelligence developed by NCB, a joint team of NCB from Bengaluru and Hyderabad seized the truck with Maharashtra registration and detained three persons – D Shinde, MR Kamble and N Jogdand, all from Latur district in Maharashtra, at the toll booth near ORR, according to a press release.
On thorough examination, it was found that 3,400 kg of marijuana was concealed in the truck. It was packed systematically in 141 gunny bags that were concealed under tarpaulin sheets and further covered by variety of nursery saplings in huge quantities.
It was difficult to detect the contraband but the NCB team found it. This operation was developed out of earlier operations, wherein seizure of total quantity of 3,992 kg of marijuana was effected resulting in the arrest of 16 persons and subsequent busting of three separate marijuana smuggling networks.
The present consignment was operated by a kingpin from Maharashtra. He arranged the drug for multiple syndicates involved in drug smuggling in Pune, Mumbai, Thane and other States too. The syndicates further peddled the contraband in various colleges, parties and individuals through their ground network.
The source of contraband is Andhra-Orissa border. Further investigations are in progress.
