Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP) Secunderabad and Railway Protection Force (RPF) jointly busted an interstate drug smuggling racket operating from agency area in Andhra Pradesh to Maharashtra and nabbed a woman courier at the Secunderabad railway station on Monday.
The arrested suspect, B Laxmi (40), a labourer from Paderu in Alluri Sita Rama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh, was caught carrying 7.9 kg of marijuana worth Rs 3.94 lakh in a luggage bag at Secunderabad railway station.
According to police, Laxmi was acting on behalf of her long-time associate Bonya, the prime suspect, who is a repeat offender in drug cases. “Bonya lured Laxmi with an offer of Rs 3,000 per trip to transport drug consignments from Visakhapatnam to Solapur in a train,” said a GRP official.
On September 14, the duo boarded the Konark Express at Visakhapatnam with a bag containing four marijuana packets. However, during a surprise anti-drug check at Secunderabad station on Monday, the teams caught Laxmi while Bonya fled the coach. Police said efforts are on to nab Bonya, the alleged mastermind of the smuggling racket.
