So, how was it working with the ‘Love Story’ team? “I know Pawan from the ARR projects we were both parts of in the past, and I was very excited to hear that he was making his debut as a composer. He is super talented and it was lovely to work with him and the team to record this fun duet,” shares Jonita, who confesses that she cannot speak or understand Telugu.
“I speak only English very fluently, but I’m comfortable conversing in Hindi. I understand Punjabi too!” she adds.
Jonita is a fan of singers such as Sonu Nigam, Asha Bhosle, Beyoncé, Bruno Mars… the list goes on and on. “I like listening to a variety of music including RnB, dancehall, Bollywood ballads, urban desi music… and so much more!” she says.
The pandemic has given the singer a chance to learn and grow and overcome obstacles. She spent the first few months alone in Mumbai, but, luckily, she was able to go home and spend a few months with her family in Canada. Talking about her lockdown experience, she says, “I experimented a little bit with cooking. The food turned out good surprisingly. I recently started painting and I really enjoy it! It’s a great stress-buster and fun pass-time. Since lockdown, my backyard is where most of my favourite moments happen.”
Talking about her travel plans once things around the world get better, she says, “One place I haven’t been to that I really want to visit is any major city in Spain. I also really want to go back to places like Tokyo, Florence, and Nice (South of France).”
“I’ve been to Hyderabad many times to perform. I love the food and hospitality of the people there. Hyderabad audiences are full of such diverse music lovers also, which is always great to experience,” she says.
Given her good looks, one wonders if she is interested in acting as well? “I recently shot for an English language film with a Kollywood production house that’s scheduled to release on OTT platforms later this year,” informs Jonita, who says she would have probably been in finance if she didn’t pursue singing as a career.
The singer is working on a few independent music projects which she’s really excited to share with her fans soon! On a parting note, she says, “There are also a couple of film songs in the works; we will have to wait to hear about those!”
