Hyderabad: Shaik Rahman, Professor of Photography at Jawarhalal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University (JNAFAU) succumbed to Covid-19 while undergoing treatment at NIMS in Hyderabad on Tuesday. He was 54 and is survived by two sons.

Rahman contracted the disease around a fortnight back. He was initially admitted to a private hospital, but was rushed to NIMS on Monday when his condition deteriorated.

A passionate photographer, he joined the College of Fine Arts, a unit of JNAFAU, as an assistant professor in 1992. He was the head of the department of photography and also served as registrar of the university. He was the director of academic and planning wing of the institution. The final rites were held on Tuesday evening.

His colleague Prof Kamal Roy said Rahman was an affable teacher and used to be very supportive of his students. Professor Rahman’s death is a loss to the institution and students of photography, he said.
