Hyderabad: Scores of bird watchers and nature lovers gathered at KBR Park in Banjara Hills on the occasion of World Sparrow Day. Many of them joined with their cameras to click and document a variety of birds at the sprawling green premises of the park.
As part of the Sparrow Day celebrations, a series of events were also organised and in addition to bird watching in the morning, environmental awareness, do’s and don’ts of forest areas, distribution of algae, drawing for school children, making slogans, signature campaigns and giving away prizes, were also held.
The bird lovers who participated in the program said the forest cover and environment in Telangana have improved a lot due to the measures taken up by the government and the forest department. The migration of animals and bird species here has also clearly increased as compared to the past.
“Birds, especially sparrows, continue to be a part of our way of life and it is everyone’s responsibility to make sure they do not become extinct. With the priority and encouragement of the government, we are reviving the forests through greenery in Telangana and developing urban parks on a large scale,” said RM Dobriel, Chief Forest Officer.
He further added that the days of playing with sparrows in childhood were remembered by all and it was everyone’s duty to protect the environment to pass on those sweet memories to future generations.
The event was attended by Hyderabad Forest Chief Conservator MJ Akbar, representatives of Birding Pals, Deccan Birders and Nature Lovers Societies, students from various schools, Hyderabad District Forest Officer M Joji, KBR Park staff and Walkers Association representatives.
