Hyderabad: Immersion of the Khairatabad Ganesh, standing tall at 40 feet this year, passed off successfully on Sunday, with the gigantic idol being immersed in the Hussain Sagar by 3.20 pm.
The Shoba Yatra of the deity started around 9 am and devotees in traditional attire watched as artistes with Bonam on their head danced in front of the idol. Along the procession route, security was beefed up and the procession reached NTR Marg around 1.50 pm after which the idol was immersed using a big crane. To have a glimpse of the deity, people from parts of the city gathered at NTR Marg.
While some climbed the foot-over bridge on the stretch, a few of them climbed trees to have a clear view of the idol. People were seen taking pictures of the deity and taking selfies with idols in the backdrop. Some children were also seen enjoying the play areas set up along the NTR Marg when an immersion arrangement near the crane was being made. A visitor said that despite multiple immersion points near his house, he had reached Hussain Sagar to have a glimpse of the Khairatabad Ganesh.
āI came from Madhapur, where there are several immersion points.I came here to seek blessings of the Giant – the Khairatabad Ganesh,ā said B Sudhakar, who operates a mineral water plant in the city.
