Hyderabad: A team doctors from city-based Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) enabled a young Civils aspirant from Maharashtra Devanand Telgote who was in a critical condition due to Covid-19, recover.

Hailing from Akola district of Maharashtra, Devanand who already had cracked prelims and mains and was preparing for the interview, was put on Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) support, which provides long-term heart and lung support, for more than four months at KIMS.

While undergoing treatment for Covid-19 in Maharashtra, his lung condition had worsened and he was not able to maintain saturation even on ventilator. Being a Civils aspirant, Devanand came in touch with Rachakonda Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat, who in-turn advised him to get in touch with KIMS Hospital. Within a day or two, Devanand was brought to KIMS from Maharashtra in an air ambulance.

Under the care of Dr Sandeep Attawar, who leads the heart and lung transplant team at KIMS, Devanand gradually recovered and is off ECMO and ventilator support. At present, Devanand has fully recovered and was discharged on Wednesday. On his special request, the UPSC also reacted positively and postponed his interview from May 5 to September 22.
