Hyderabad: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao directed officials and elected public representatives to extensively inspect low lying areas and shift residents affected due to the continuing rains to nearby function halls and community halls.

Instructions were issued to the officials to arrange food, drinking water, medicines and blankets to people relocated to rehabilitation camps.

If required, services of staff working at different Basti Dawakhanas in the vicinity should be utilised to extend medical services and treatment, he said.

The Minister held a video conference with District Collectors of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal and enquired about the rescue and relief measures being taken up in respective jurisdictions.

With many trees and electricity poles getting damaged and collapsing due to the heavy rains, instructions were issued to GHMC and electricity department to work in coordination and fix all the glitches. Electricity department was directed to restore power supply in the affected areas.

With water being released downstream from Himayath Sagar, the Minister directed officials to monitor the situation in low lying areas abutting River Musi and shift residents to safer places.

Zonal Commissioners were directed to shift residents living close to open nalas to safer places.

Animal Husbandry Minister T. Srinivas Yadav, MAUD Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar and other senior officials accompanied the Minister in the conference.
