Hyderabad: Hyderabad struck an early blow, leaving home team Puducherry at 25 for 1 in reply to their 435 in the first innings, at the close of play on the second day of the four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Group D match in Puducherry on Sunday.
Resuming at the overnight score of 255 for 1, Hyderabad lost both the overnight batters cheaply—captain G. Rahul Singh, who was on 114, was dismissed on the same individual score, and K. Himateja, who added just four more runs this morning.
Both were dismissed by left-arm spinner Sagar Udeshi. However, Puducherry’s hopes of making a comeback were later dashed by the resilience of wicketkeeper-batter Rahul Radesh (81, 161 balls, 10×4) and seasoned campaigner and southpaw Rohit Rayudu (34, 79 balls, 2×4, 2×6).
Opener Tanmay Agarwal, who retired hurt with cramps on the first day after scoring 36, went on to complete a half-century (50, 110 balls, 4×4, 1×6).
For Puducherry, Udeshi (4/110), India discard and off-spinner Jayant Yadav (2/114), and Karan Kannan (2/66) bowled well.
In reply, Puducherry suffered an early blow, losing opener Paras Ratnaparkhe (5), who was dismissed by pacer Punnaiah.
Bad light stopped play before the scheduled close of play.
