Hyderabad: Polling for the Hyderabad Local Authorities Constituency MLC seat has concluded peacefully with a voter turnout of 78.57 per cent. The counting will be held from 8 am on April 25 at the GHMC headquarters.

For the first time in 22 years, polling was held for the Hyderabad Local Authorities Constituency MLC seat. This election was necessitated as the term of sitting BRS MLC MS Prabhakar expires on May 1. Although a unanimous election was anticipated once again, the BJP’s decision to contest made polling inevitable. The BJP fielded N Gautam Rao, while the AIMIM nominated Mirza Riyaz ul Hasan Effendi.

Out of the total 112 eligible voters – comprising 81 GHMC corporators and 31 ex-officio members, 88 cast their votes. Of these, 66 were corporators and 22 were ex-officio members. BRS, having announced its decision to boycott the election, did not participate, leaving the Congress, BJP, and AIMIM members to cast their votes.

The polling began at 8 am and ended at 4 pm, with two polling stations set up at the GHMC headquarters – one in the library hall for corporators and another in the building management department for ex-officio members.

Heavy police deployment, including around 500 personnel, was seen around the GHMC premises. Barricades were erected, traffic was restricted within a 200-metre radius, and the GHMC office was given a holiday to facilitate smooth polling.
