Hyderabad: A nine-year-old girl was saved by locals after they saw her being taken away by a man into a vacant shop in Mangar Basthi of Habeebnagar.
Though the man, identified as Sumeeth, 30, managed to escape when locals followed them into the shop, he was nabbed later and charged with kidnap and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police said the incident happened when the child went out to go to a shop. Sumeeth, a resident of the same locality, allegedly lured her and took her to a vacant shop and began misbehaving with her. However, a few persons who saw him taking the girl into the shop rushed to the place and rescued her.
Sumeeth, who fled the spot, was later caught at Langer Houz by the police. A case has been booked and investigation is going on.
