Hyderabad: Lorry overturns at Shamshabad, five killed

Hyderabad: Five persons were killed and three others sustained critical injuries when the lorry they were travelling in overturned at Shamshabad on Sunday evening. The incident happened when the group of 30 brick kiln workers, staying at Sultanpally village in Shamshabad mandal, were returning after visiting the weekly vegetable market at Shamshabad bus stand.
“When the lorry reached Narkhuda village, the driver tried to avoid hitting a car when the vehicle slipped off the road and overturned. Three persosn who were in the lorry, came beneath the car, while two others beneath the lorry,” said N Prakash Reddy, DCP Shamshabad.
Those who died were identified as Krupa Sona (40), Gopal Deep (45) and Kala Kumar (25) and two others. All the injured were shifted to different hospitals in Shamshabad and the injured were rushed to Osmania General Hospital for emergency treatment.
A few of the injured were shifted to the hospital in police vehicles and public transport vehicles. Locals from nearby villages rushed to the rescue of the injured people. The accident spot was strewn with the vegetables and groceries that the labourers were carrying home.
The police had a tough time in pulling out the injured persons trapped under the lorry. With the help of the crane, the lorry was moved and those trapped were pulled out. The DCP said a case has been registered against the lorry driver for carrying passengers which was in violation of the rules. The lorry is used for transporting bricks to the construction sites, the police said.
