Hyderabad: Telugu actor Mahesh Babu is expected to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Monday in connection with the money laundering investigation involving Hyderabad-based real estate firms Sai Surya Developers and the Surana Group.

The ED is probing the allegations that these companies defrauded homebuyers by selling unauthorised plots and failing to deliver on promised projects.

Mahesh Babu, who is their brand ambassador, had endorsed several of their ventures and for which he had reportedly received Rs 5.9 crore remuneration for his promotional work. Of the payment, it is alleged that Rs 2.5 crore was paid in cash, which now is under scrutiny by the ED.

The ED had earlier summoned the actor asking to appear before it for questioning. However, the actor sought more time for his appearance due to his busy work schedule.
