Hyderabad: A property owner approached the Petbasheerabad police against the welfare association of his colony who allegedly laid speed breakers illegally on colony roads.

Ravinder Reddy, in his complaint, said the welfare association had laid six speed breakers in the colony illegally and without following the laid down norms and specifications.

Citing a judgement of Mumbai High Court, he said the ‘Neighbourhood Welfare Association’ president, general secretary and others had violated the norms.

Ravinder Reddy said the speed breakers in any colony should meet the specification and as per rules that have been framed by the Indian Roads Congress.

“Before laying a speed breaker, the party should approach the local municipality and the local traffic inspector who will visit the spot,” said Ravinder Reddy.

He argued that the roads in the colonies are under the purview of the municipality and laying a speed breaker by individual or association is illegal.

According to IRC (Indian Road Congress) guidelines, a speed breaker should have a radius of 17m with a width of 3.7m and a height of 0.1m. This is calculated to reduce the speed of the vehicle to 25 kmph.
