Hyderabad: A 28-year-old man working with a cash management company, who attempted to rob a cash dispensing machine at Gowlipura in old city, was arrested by the Chatrinaka police on Saturday.
A Shiva Krishna, resident of Kandikal Gate, worked with a private cash management company and is familiar with the process of cash deposits in ATM machines. On Thursday, he went to the HDFC bank ATM center at Gowlipura and tried to open the door of the cash dispensing machine using a duplicate key, police said.
When the alarm of the ATM centre went-off, Shiva Krishna ran away before police reached the spot. The security personnel who were remotely monitoring the activity in Mumbai through surveillance cameras and internal security set up alerted the local police about the attempt. On information the police reached the spot and shut down the ATM facility and waited for the security agency personnel to arrive.
“No cash was missing from the ATM. A complaint was made by the security agency following which a case was registered,” K Naveen Kumar, Detective Inspector, Chatrinaka police station, said.
On Saturday, the police identified the man with the help of the surveillance cameras installed in the area and caught him. “Shiva Krishna wore a helmet and facemask to conceal his identity. But we managed to track him down and arrested him,” said the Inspector.
On interrogation, Shiva Krishna told the police that he worked with a cash management company entrusted with the task of depositing cash in various ATM centers and tried to use the key available with him to open the machine and take away the cash. “He is not connected to the cash management agency taking care of the ATM which he attempted to rob,” the police clarified. The man was produced before the court and remanded.
Teenaged boy arrested
In another case, a minor boy aged 16 years who had damaged an ATM machine and tried to take away cash at Aghapura two days ago was apprehended by the Mangalhat police on Saturday. The boy, a resident of Mangalhat, had gone to the ICICI Bank ATM centre located near Mahalaxmi Tiffin centre and tried to break the machine using a stone. However, the juvenile fled the spot upon hearing the police vehicle siren.
The bank management who noticed it the next morning informed the Mangalhat police who registered a case and tracked him down on Saturday. He was detained and sent to observation home, said G Ranaveer Reddy, SHO Mangalhat police station.
