Hyderabad: Man beaten in Ghatkesar after mistaken identity over ‘Nepali gang’ suspicion
A man was allegedly assaulted by locals in Ghatkesar after they mistook him for a member of a “Nepali gang”. Police later identified him as a labourer from Assam and ruled out any criminal involvement following preliminary investigation.
Hyderabad: A man was allegedly beaten up by residents after they mistook him for a member of a ‘Nepali gang’, while he was moving suspiciously around a residential area in Ghatkesar on Sunday night.
The incident took place under the limits of Pocharam IT Corridor police station.
According to the police, locals in Sai Teja Colony at Yamnampet grew suspicious after spotting the man roaming in the area around midnight and alerted police before assaulting him.
During inquiry, police identified the man as Shantaram Basumatary (34), a native of Assam. He was found to be working as a helper with a leading firm.
Preliminary investigation indicated that he had no links to any criminal gang.
