Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old man was beaten to death by his co-worker allegedly over mobile phone theft at a brick and cement manufacturing unit in Ghatkesar on the suburb.
According to Pocharam IT Corridor Police, the victim, Venkanna, and the suspect Vivek, were co-workers at the unit. When Vivek’s mobile phone went missing recently, he suspected Venkanna of stealing it.
On Thursday, he confronted Venkanna at Jodimetla and demanded the phone. After being assaulted, Venkanna confessed to pawning the phone for Rs 200.
Vivek then recovered the phone from the shop but, upset over the missing cover, demanded it from Venkanna. When he failed to respond, Vivek beat him again and took him home in an auto, where the assault continued.
Due to the continuous assault, Venkanna collapsed, and he was shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead.
The police initially registered a case of suspicious death, but later altered it to a murder case following investigation.
