Hyderabad: A city resident was allegedly duped of Rs 7.7 lakh by a man posing as a vernacular news channel reporter, who promised to secure land-related approvals through the Dharani portal by claiming influence over senior officials.
According to the complaint, the suspect, Mohd Alibaig (40), a resident of KV Ranga Reddy street in Medchal introduced himself as a district-level reporter of Medchal-Malkajgiri area and assured that he could get any work done on the Dharani portal with ease.
He allegedly claimed that even officials of the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA) would heed his requests.
Believing his assurances, the complainant paid a total of Rs 7 lakh to get the work completed. However, the suspect neither fulfilled the promise nor returned the money, even after repeatedly being requested.
