Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a man struggling with financial crisis, allegedly ended his life along with his five-year-old daughter by jumping into a lake in Petbasheerabad.
According to the police, Ashok (50), a native of Lal Bazaar, had married Soni about 15 years ago and the couple had a daughter, Divya. To make a living, the family shifted to Indiramma Colony in Bahadurpally, and Ashok took up work as a cook.
About three years ago, Ashok’s wife met with an accident while crossing a road in Bahadurpally and the doctors had to amputate her left leg, leaving her disabled. With no steady income, the family slipped deeper into a financial crisis.
Recently, the couple had reportedly decided to end their lives along with their daughter. A few days ago, Ashok attempted to set the family on fire by opening a gas cylinder and lighting it. However, his wife managed to escape, raising alarm and the neighbours rushed in to douse the flames.
The next evening, Ashok took his daughter Divya to Komatikunta Lake in Maisammaguda and jumped in with her. On Thursday evening, locals spotted the bodies floating in the water and alerted the police.
The Petbasheerabad police reached the spot and with the help of disaster response teams, retrieved the bodies. The case is under investigation.
