Hyderabad man gets lifer for raping step-daughter

Hyderabad: A man, who repeatedly raped his step-daughter, impregnating her at least thrice and making her deliver a baby when she was just 14 years old, was on Thursday sentenced to life by a local court.

As per the case, the accused, a resident of Kanchanbagh, began sedating her and then threatening her with a knife before raping her in 2018, when she was 14 years old. According to her brother, the accused used to lock the girl inside the house after repeatedly raping her, and she became pregnant. The mother, according to the police, knew about the brutal harassment her daughter was facing, but kept quiet and tried to get the pregnancy aborted. However, the girl delivered a baby boy. Neighbours and relatives were told that the girl had got married to a person in the Gulf.

After the delivery too, he continued, making her pregnant twice, and giving her abortion pills. As per the version of the brother, who was living separately, the girl finally managed to escape from the house in January this year, and approached him. The accused and their mother allegedly threatened the girl and her brother to keep quiet, with him even trying to burn the brother’s house.

Following the complaint, the police who booked a case under sections of Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act arrested him and his wife. The Kanchanbagh police filed a chargesheet in the court and after trial, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment while his wife was acquitted.
