Hyderabad: Man held for cheating people using fake Instagram account

Hyderabad: The Cybercrime police on Wednesday arrested one person who allegedly created a fake account of a woman on Instagram and collected Rs 50,000 from her friends.

The arrested person, identified as Elaporulu Mani Shankar (31) of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh, checked the original Instagram profile of the victim and downloaded a few pictures.

“Using one of her original pictures, Mani Shankar created a fake profile on Instagram and urged friends and followers of the victim to send money for a medical emergency. He collected Rs 50,000 from different persons,” the police said, adding that following a complaint, they began investigating and tracked Shankar to Krishna district, from where a special team arrested him.
