Hyderabad: The Jawaharnagar police caught a man on charges of posing as an IPS officer and cheating a woman on a matrimonial website.
The woman, a resident of Yapral, had recently uploaded her profile along with contact details on a popular matrimony site. Last week, she received a call from a person who introduced himself as Hari Prasad (29), an IPS officer posted in New Delhi. He told her that his father was a judge posted with a special court in Bengaluru.
Police said he promised to marry her, which she believed him. A few days ago, he sent her fake documents including identity card and pay slip when he she asked him. On checking the documents, she grew suspicious and questioned him, following which he started threatening her.
Based on the victim’s mother’s complaint, a case was booked and Hari Prasad was arrested from Miryalaguda in Nalgonda.
