Hyderabad: A local court on Monday sentenced a man to three years of rigourous imprisonment for harassing his live-in partner and abetting her to die by suicide in Chaitanyapuri in 2020. The court imposed a fine of Rs.10,000 on him.
The convicted person M.Mahesh (50), a barber from Mohan Nagar was into a live-in-relationship with Rajyalaxmi alias Vijaya (35), who separated from her husband and was staying with their children at Snehapuri colony. Mahesh, who was addicted to alcohol, often picked up fights with Rajyalaxmi in an inebriated condition. He harassed her physically and mentally. Even a fortnight prior to the incident, in February 2020, he tortured her.
Unable to take further harassment, Vijaya doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze. She died while under treatment. The Chaitanyapuri police booked a case and arrested Mahesh.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat appreciated the investigation officer and team for their efforts in securing conviction in the case.
