Hyderabad: A man died on the spot while his wife was injured, when the car he was driving went out of control and crashed into a roadside tree at Tondupally village in Shamshabad here, early on Saturday.
The incident occurred when Rakesh Kumar (32), a private employee, and his wife, Suma (30), both from Hyderabad, were proceeding towards Mahabubnagar via Shamshabad. According to the police, when they reached near the Tondupally Bridge, Rakesh lost control of the steering wheel leading to the mishap.
“The car suddenly turned and went off the road and crashed into a roadside banyan tree. Rakesh suffered grievous injuries after his head hit the car’s steering and died on the spot. His wife, who was seated beside him, too suffered injuries and got stuck in the car,” police said, adding that local villagers pried the car door open and took Suma out. She was shifted to a nearby private hospital for treatment.
Though the air bags in the car were activated, they burst due to the impact. The Shamshabad Rural police cleared the traffic snarl that began after the accident. A case has been booked, police said, adding that rash driving led to the mishap.
The victim’s body was handed over to the family after autopsy at the Osmania General Hospital morgue.
