Hyderabad: A woman was murdered by her son-in-law allegedly after an argument in Ghatkesar on Wednesday.

Victim M Bujjamma (50), a daily wage worker who lost her husband, was staying with her three daughters and sons-in-law at Maisammagutta in Ghatkesar.

Suspect Dorababu (35), a construction worker, was married to Geetha, the younger daughter of Bujjamma. Dorababu, who was addicted to alcohol, often picked up fights with his mother-in-law and other family members.

According to the police, a few days ago, a mobile phone of Gowri, another daughter of Bujjamma, was stolen. Bujjamma, who suspected Dorababu questioned him in the absence of other family members.

“The duo had an argument over the victim cornering the suspect over the missing phone. Angered, he smothered her to death with a pillow,” said a police official adding that the suspect fled from the spot immediately after the incident.

Based on a complaint, the Yacharam police are investigating.
