Hyderabad: A woman was killed, allegedly by her husband, who according to the police, tried to perform her final rites claiming it to be a natural death.
The incident happened in Uppal, police said on Thursday, adding that the woman, Ch Surambha (35), and her husband Ch Srinu (40), both vegetable vendors from Nagaram in Suryapet, were married for 20 years and were living with their two children at Venkatreddy Nagar in Ramanthapur.
Police said Srinu was harassing Surambha, both mentally and physically and on the night of September 28, he picked up an argument with her and started beating her with blunt objects resulting in her death. To mislead relatives, he called and told them that she died due to high blood pressure and ill health and said he was bringing the body to the village for final rites.
“The same night, he put her body in his auto trolley and covered it with bags of vegetables and went to their village. However, during the final rites, her relatives found injuries on her face and other places and suspected foul play,” police said, adding that on being alerted, the Nagaram police reached the spot and shifted the body for autopsy. They booked a case and Srinu, during interrogation, confessed to the murder.
Based on jurisdiction, the case was transferred to the Uppal police, who are continuing the investigation.
