Hyderabad: A businessman from Masab Tank in the city lost Rs 53 lakh to fraudsters who conned him by sending a spoof email.

The man, Mohd Khader, of Masab Tank had placed an order for goods worth 97,250 dollars with a Chennai-based company. On instructions of the company, he paid an advance of Rs 29,175 dollars through online transfer.

“Afterwards, the victim received another mail asking him to transfer the remaining amount to them and provided another bank account details. Believing the mail to be sent from the company, the man transferred 68,075 dollars. Later, he came to know that he was duped,” said KVM Prasad, ACP (Cybercrime) Hyderabad.

The police have booked a case and are investigating.
