Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a man killed his elder sister, chopped the body into pieces and disposed of it in a lake at Abdullapurmet over a property dispute. The man later approached the police and filed a missing complaint, but the police grew suspicious and grilled him, leading to the arrest of the man and his two accomplices.

The arrested are Pappu Ram Kumavat, Rakesh Kumavat and Sunil Kumar, all natives of Haryana.

According to the police, Pappu Ram and his sister Leela Devi had purchased a 120 square yard plot a few years ago. Pappu Ram got the plot registered in his name and for the past few months, the victim Leela Devi had been demanding that the plot be divided and half of the property transferred to her name.

Pappu Ram did not want to give Leela her share in the plot. He planned to kill his sister and keep the plot for himself. He sought the help of his friends Rakesh and Sunil to execute the murder. “On February 28, Pappu Ram, Rakesh and Sunil killed the woman by strangulating her at her house and kept the body there while waiting for an opportunity to dispose of it. Four days later, on March 2, they shifted the body in a car to Pedda Cheruvu in Abdullapurmet, where they cut off the legs. They then threw the body parts into the lake after placing them in a bag and plastic cover,” said V Ashok Reddy, Inspector, Abdullapurmet police station.

After killing the woman and disposing of the body, Pappu Ram came to the Abdullapurmet police station and lodged a complaint stating that his elder sister Leela was missing. The police then registered a case of a missing woman and started efforts to trace her.

During the investigation, the police grew suspicious of the behaviour of Pappu Ram and took him into custody. On interrogation, the man admitted to killing his sister.

The police, with the help of swimmers, are trying to trace the body parts in the lake.
