Hyderabad:
The Rachakonda Cybercrime police arrested a man on charges of harassing a woman on social media posing as a Crime Investigation Department official on Tuesday.

The arrested person was identified as K.Vinod Kumar (25), a private employee from Asmathpur in Manchal in Ranga Reddy district.

According to the police, the woman in her complaint alleged that she had been receiving messages and video calls on WhatsApp from an unknown person. The stranger also sent obscene content to her phone and immediately deleted after confirming she had viewed them.

He further introduced himself as a CID officer and threatened her to make nude video calls, failing which he would upload her morphed photos on social media. When the complainant blocked his mobile number, the stalker continued harassing from other numbers.

Based on her complaint, a case was booked and with the help of scientific evidence, Vinod Kumar was arrested. Further investigation revealed that Vinod, who is addicted to watching porn on his mobile phone, intended to make friends with women and develop intimacy, using social media platforms.

“He made random video calls to unknown mobile numbers on WhatsApp, concealing his face. When his call is received, he would confirm it is a woman and then continued to make frequent video calls and harass them,” police said.

During such attempts, he happened to make a WhatsApp video call to the complainant and sent obscene content to her and issued threats posing as a CID official.
