Hyderabad: The family members of Anshul Kunchal, who was shot dead by unidentified persons in North Philadelphia, have askedHyderabad: Man shot dead in Philadelphia; family seeks centre’s help to bring body home the Indian government to take up the matter with the US government and arrange to bring the mortal remains to India at the earliest.

The family of Anshul (28) stays at Gundlapochampally in Medchal in the city suburbs. Anshul left for the US about four years ago for studies.

Tanvi, sister of Anshul, said that he worked in an MNC in North Philadelphia, and was doing pizza deliveries on weekends for an extra source of income.

“The killer called him to an abandoned area for pizza delivery. We were told he was shot in the head three times and left on the road. It was a trap; it was to kill him. I don’t know what they gained out of it or what intentions they had. They took my brother and killed him,” she told media persons at their residence in Medchal.

Tanvi said no belongings were reported missing after the incident, leading the family to believe robbery was not the objective. She said that the US media stated two masked individuals carrying backpacks were suspected to have been involved in the shooting.

She recalled that he was robbed by a few men who took his chain, phone and cash earlier.

“He was a very loving and joyful person. He didn’t want to go to the US, but we sent him to see what he ended up in. This is a message to all the parents who are sending their children to the US: do not send your kids to the US,” she said.

In a statement posted on X, the Consulate General of India in New York expressed condolences to the bereaved family and said it was in contact with them.
