Hyderabad: Masab Tank flyover to be partially closed for 1.5 months fo maintenance

Masab Tank flyover in Hyderabad is partially closed during nights for essential maintenance work, which will continue for at least one and half months. GHMC is replacing strip seal joints to prevent rainwater leaks. Traffic diversions are in place

Hyderabad: Masab Tank flyover, one of the busiest flyovers in the city, is closed partially during night times as part of maintenance works.

According to GHMC Khairatabad Zone officials, the flyover maintenance has been taken up and, with the permission of the traffic police, the works are being carried out during the night. The works will continue for at least another one and half months.


The flyover was built almost 25 years ago to ease traffic congestion towards Mehdipatnam. As part of the annual maintenance, the strip seal joints are being replaced to arrest water leakages during the rainy season. This is essential to prevent damage to the flyover, officials said.

The maintenance work is crucial to ensure the longevity and safety of the infrastructure, especially during adverse weather conditions, said a GHMC engineering wing official.

Asifnagar Traffic Inspector S Koteswar Rao said the flyover is being closed partially for the maintenance works. “For instance, traffic coming from Mahavir Hospital towards NMDC is restricted on the flyover between 10 pm and 6 am and is diverted to the road below. However, during this time, traffic coming from NMDC to Mahavir Hospital is allowed on the flyover.”

Once the works on one side of the flyover are completed, it will be opened for traffic and the other half will be closed to take up the maintenance works.
