Hyderabad Mayor announces special programmes to prevent seasonal diseases
GHMC has initiated an extensive disease control programme including mosquito control, anti-larval spraying and fogging, in addition to taking up measures to control mosquitoes in ponds, reservoirs and lakes in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: In order to prevent seasonal diseases like dengue and malaria in the current monsoon season, Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi on Thursday announced special programmes to be conducted throughout July.
As the onset of monsoon increases the chances of these diseases, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated an extensive disease control programme including mosquito control, anti-larval spraying and fogging, in addition to taking up measures to control mosquitoes in ponds, reservoirs and lakes in the city.
The Mayor, who participated in Pattana Pragathi programme at MLA Colony, Banjara Hills, after planting saplings at the colony park also inaugurated an awareness programme on the prevention of seasonal diseases organised by the Entomology Wing. She said efforts were on to address the issues of waste in the city by clearing bushes and weeds alongside roads, in addition to setting a target of distributing and planting one crore saplings to increase greenery.
Hyderabad has become a bin-less city as a part of the Solid Waste Management Regulation, she pointed out and urged the public to hand over domestic waste to the Swachch Autos. She also appealed to the citizens to ensure the surroundings of their houses are clean just like their houses, to enable disease prevention. Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagendar, Zonal Commissioner P Pravinya, Chief Entomologist, Rambabu and others participated in the programme.
