Hyderabad: A Class nine student died by suicide, allegedly due to harassment from a youth, at her house in Ranganayakulagutta in Hayathnagar on the city outskirts on Tuesday.
The 14-year-old girl, a student of a government school at Hayathnagar, was allegedly being harassed by P Rohith, who belonged to the same neighbourhood for the past six months.
According to the police, Rohith was stalking her in the name of love, in person and on social media platforms. Despite the victim avoiding him and the girl’s family giving a warning, the youth continued to harass her by making video, audio calls and text messages.
Even on Monday, Rohith sent a text message from his brother’s social media account to the victim and harassed her. Further, in the absence of her parents, he came to her house and threatened to accept his love proposal that night.
Unable to bear the harassment, the girl took the drastic step by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her home in the early hours.
Based on the complaint, the Hayathnagar police booked a case and took up an investigation. Rohith was detained.
