Hyderabad: The Rajendranagar police caught a juvenile on charges of kidnapping and raping a minor girl here on Thursday.
The girl who is a class ten student of a private school and the 17-year-old suspect, a native of Gulbarga in Karnataka, are known to each other for the last three years.
Police said the suspect along with his family, stayed for three years as tenant in the victim’s house. Since then, he had been stalking and harassing her. When the girl informed her parents, they warned the boy and forcibly vacated him from the rented portion.
Subsequently, his family shifted to Hyderguda in Rajendranagar. But he continued to stalk and harass her.
On Wednesday, he took the girl on his bike by threatening to kill her, to Himayat Sagar.
“There, he overpowered and raped her amidst bushes on the bank of the lake. He fled from the spot abandoning her. The girl, who reached home later due to fear of consequences, initially did not open her mouth. However, she narrated the ordeal to her mother later,” said an official.
Based on her mother’s complaint, the Rajendranagar police booked a case of rape and sections of the POCSO Act and took up investigation. The girl was sent to the hospital for a medical examination.
On credible information, the police formed special teams and nabbed the suspect from his house, when he was trying to flee Hyderabad to his native place in Gulbarga in Karnataka.
He was produced before the Juvenile Justice Board.
