Hyderabad: Motorists stranded as roads around Hussain Sagar remain closed

Motorists faced severe inconvenience as roads around Hussain Sagar remained closed for the second consecutive day due to Ganesh immersion arrangements. Long queues and traffic congestion were reported near Indira Park and Lower Tank Bund as police enforced diversions.

Hyderabad: Motorists heading to their workplaces were left stranded at several points as roads around Hussain Sagar remained closed for the second consecutive day in view of the Ganesh immersion procession.

Long queues of vehicles were seen on roads leading towards Indira Park, Lower Tank Bund and other stretches surrounding Hussain Sagar, with commuters complaining that the continued restrictions were causing severe inconvenience. At several places, motorists were seen arguing with traffic police personnel after being stopped from proceeding towards their destinations.

Confrontations between motorists and police were witnessed at Indira Park and Lower Tank Bund as commuters sought permission to pass through the restricted stretches. Traffic police personnel, however, cited the ongoing immersion arrangements and security requirements while regulating vehicular movement.

The traffic police issued a fresh advisory on Saturday, informing commuters that diversions and restrictions would continue on various routes to facilitate the smooth conduct of the Ganesh immersion programme. Motorists were advised to avoid roads around Hussain Sagar and use alternative routes wherever possible.

With a large number of commuters travelling towards the central parts of the city for work on Saturday, the restrictions resulted in traffic congestion on several connecting roads. Police personnel were deployed at key junctions to regulate traffic and prevent vehicles from entering the restricted stretches.

The traffic police appealed to motorists to cooperate with the diversions and plan their journeys in advance, stating that the restrictions were being enforced to ensure the safe and smooth movement of the immersion processions.
