Hyderabad Muslims offer Salat al-Istisqa prayers seeking rain amid dry spell

Muslims across Hyderabad offered Salat al-Istisqa prayers at several locations on Sunday, seeking rainfall amid dry conditions and water scarcity. Congregations were held at Dargah Ujale Shah and Abbas Stadium, while another prayer gathering has been announced at Masab Tank.

HYDERABAD: Muslims across Hyderabad offered “Salat al-Istisqa” prayers at various places on Sunday, seeking rainfall amid the prevailing dry conditions and drought-like situation in parts of the State. The special prayers were led by prominent religious personalities.

A large gathering was witnessed at Dargah Ujale Shah in Saidabad, where devotees participated in the prayers led by a prominent religious scholar. Following the prayers, people made special supplications seeking rainfall and relief from the prevailing water scarcity conditions.

Earlier on Friday, Salat al-Istisqa prayers were organised at Abbas Stadium, Barkas, by local residents, with a large number of people participating in the congregation.

AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi announced that similar prayers would be held on July 26 at the Hockey Grounds, Masab Tank, and appealed to people to take part in the prayers.

During previous dry spells, large congregations were held on the dried-up banks of Himayat Sagar, where people gathered to pray for relief from water scarcity.

In Islam, Salat al-Istisqa is a Sunnah prayer performed to seek rain from Allah during periods of drought or water scarcity. The prayer consists of two rak’ahs (units of prayer) and is generally conducted in open areas, reflecting humility and the community’s dependence on divine mercy. Prophet Muhammad established this practice, emphasising sincere supplication and repentance to seek Allah’s blessings for rainfall.
