Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW), the anti-narcotics agency of the Hyderabad police, will further be strengthened to fight the drug issue in the city.
Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, VC Sajjanar, said that a new cell to support investigation and court trial in the drug cases will be created soon and an experienced officer will be posted to follow up on the cases. “A 360-degree approach will be taken to address the drug issue by involving all stakeholders,” said Hyderabad CP Sajjanar.
The HNEW will expand itself from two teams now to seven teams covering every nook and corner of the city. There will be technical teams to assist the operations teams with data and back-end operations. “We are gathering a database of all those involved in drug cases, and preparing a consolidated database,” said DCP Task Force and HNEW, Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath.
A meeting with different stakeholders, including Narcotics Control Bureau, Prohibition and Excise Department, Enforcement Directorate, EAGLE team, Drug Control Administration, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police, was held recently to evolve strategies to combat drug trafficking in the State.
