Hyderabad: Sports lovers in Khajaguda and the vicinity now have an exclusive facility being built for them. The Khajaguda Sports Complex, spread over two acres, has four badminton courts, a gymnasium and a carrom room. This facility being built by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) with an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore has dormitories for men and women.

This indoor stadium will be one of the biggest facilities for badminton in the city and is likely to be inaugurated by June 2022. To give the facility a swanky look, art work was taken up on the arch and walls of the one-storied building with paintings of people playing badminton being added by artists. This infrastructure being developed by the State government is on a par with services offered by private companies, officials said.
Four badminton courts with decent flooring, change rooms, an exclusive coach room, illumination, adequate washrooms, ample parking and lush greenery inside the compound are some of the amenities developed. Though the infrastructure has been developed, the sports equipment is yet to be procured. With all the amenities in place, the stadium is temporarily being used to vaccinate people by the State government.
After the construction is completed, the GHMC has decided to float tenders for its maintenance following which coaches will be hired. According to GHMC officials, a nominal fee needs to be paid to utilise the facility but to get personal coaching, an extra amount will have to be paid.
The under construction sports facility has already triggered a buzz among badminton players in the IT corridor.
“This facility should be made available to people as soon as possible. Students studying in government schools should be encouraged to use the facility besides sports enthusiasts,” said S Rajvee, a resident of Chitrapuri Colony, Khajaguda.
The facility will also be available under the Pay and Play initiative of the GHMC. “Educational institutions and corporates can also use the facility. They have to login to https://www.ghmc.gov.in/ and book the complex online,” a GHMC official said. Special Summer Camps for children will also be held at the Sports Complex. In addition to the Khajaguda Sports Complex, six sports arenas are being built with Rs 47.42 crore. The construction is in progress. These facilities are besides the existing 12 sports complexes, 521 playgrounds and seven swimming pools that are operational in the GHMC limits.
