Hyderabad: The contract security guards at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) on Tuesday launched protests in the hospital campus over non-payment of salaries for the past two-months.
Demanding immediate release of their salaries, the security guards, who provide security facilities in all the medical departments of the NIMS Hospital campus, boycotted their routine duties at OP, inpatients departments and in various health care facilities from 7 am on Tuesday.
“It is clear that the NIMS management and the third party agencies who recruit security guards on contract basis are not interested in ensuring security personnel at NIMS receive their salaries on time. In the past six to seven months, this is the third time that we are launching a protest demanding timely release of salaries,” the protesting security personnel at NIMS said.
Private security personnel at NIMS never receive their salaries on time. Salaries of the personnel in the NIMS campus are pending for the past two months. We have submitted a letter to the Labor Commissioner, highlighting the issue of non-payment of salaries. Almost all the security guards at NIMS end-up doing double shifts.
However, they are not compensated in commensurate to the hardwork that they have been putting,” says NIMS Contract Security Guards Union, president, M Venkatesh said.
The protesting workers criticized that the present State government has not increased their minimum wages for the past several years. A mega dharna, aimed at raising these outstanding issues of delayed payment of salaries and lack of hikes, will be held on March 22 at Indira Park, the association members said.
