Hyderabad: NIMS observes World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week

Hyderabad: The Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) observed the World Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week (WAAW) with a series of hands-on workshops and competitions aimed at educating and increasing awareness about the critical issue of antimicrobial resistance.
The workshops, as part of WAAW from November 18 to 24, were jointly organised by departments of anaesthesiology & intensive care, microbiology, general medicine, clinical pharmacology and therapeutics and hospital administration.
The first day of the workshop involved simulation based training on infection prevention and control to nurses and residents. It was followed by interactive sessions on integrated stewardship, antifungal quiz and role-plays to promote rational prescribing of antimicrobials.
NIMS director Dr. Bheerappa expressed concerns over increasing rate of antimicrobial resistance and encouraged the team to conduct more such workshops.
NIMS dean Dr Liza Rajasekhar emphasized the critical role of IPC and AMS measures in combating antimicrobial resistance. She gave away the prizes to winners in competitions.
Faculty members including Dr. Naval Chandra, Dr. MVS Subbalaxmi, Dr. Umabala, Dr. Kavitha, Dr. K Padmaja, Dr. S Sukanya, Dr. Bhanuprasad, Dr. Jumana, Dr. Shashidhar, Dr. P Usharani and Dr. Roopali S shared their expertise during the workshop.
