Hyderabad: With the State government prohibiting public gatherings due to the threat from the Omicron variant, the weekly Sunday-Funday event at Tank Bund has been canceled and there won’t be any traffic restrictions on the stretch, which was the case earlier, Special Chief Secretary, Urban Development, Arvind Kumar here on Sunday said.

“The measure is to ensure we don’t indulge in any avoidable social activity which might lead to increased exposure and probability of contacting,” Arvind Kumar on Sunday morning tweeted.

To control the spread of the Omicron variant, on Saturday, the State government had prohibited all rallies, public meetings and mass gatherings of all kinds including religious, political and cultural till January 10. The Chief Secretary, Somesh Kumar on Saturday had urged people of Telangana to take necessary precautions including wearing masks to ensure the spread of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 is contained.
