Hyderabad: One person died, allegedly due to asphyxiation, while four others fell ill after a fire broke out in a house at Avanthi Nagar in Hyderguda here on Monday morning. A short circuit from an air-conditioner is suspected to have led to the fire.
Sources said the incident occurred around 4am, when Gowri Nath (38) along with his family members was sleeping in the house and fire erupted from the air-conditioner.
“The fire and smoke engulfed the house leaving the residents in panic. Following a call from the neighbours, a fire engine reached the spot within a few minutes and doused the fire,” said an official adding that Gowri Nath died due to asphyxiation.
Others were shifted to the hospital and given first-aid. Their condition is said to be stable.
The Narayanaguda police are investigating.
