Hyderabad: The family members of a 75-year-old home maker, Peruka Padma, a resident of Vinoba Nagar, Ibrahimpatnam in Hyderabad, who was declared brain dead by a team of attending doctors, have decided to donate her organs to needy patients as part of the Jeevandan organ donation initiative.

On April 30, due to the sudden onset of weakness, Peruka Padma fell down at home. The family members immediately shifted her to a private hospital in Hyderabad, where she was put on ICU emergency treatment. With no improvement in her health, the attending team of doctors declared Padma brain dead on May 2.

The daughter of the brain-dead victim, Janaki, gave consent to donate the organs of her mother to needy patients under Jeevandan organs donation initiative. The doctors retrieved 2 kidneys and 2 corneas (in all 4 organs) and allocated them to transplant centres based on the organ donation guidelines.
