Hyderabad: Family members of a 40-year-old daily wage earner Azmeera Kumar, hailing from GH Thanda, Ammapuram village, Thorrur mandal, Warangal district, who was declared brain dead by attending neuro physicians, have donated the organs of the deceased under the State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
On the evening of August 31, while returning home from work, Azmeera Kumar was hit by an unknown two-wheeler near Shaikpet, Hyderabad. Immediately after the incident, the locals and friends shifted Azmeera Kumar to Care Hospitals, Banjara Hills for treatment.
According to Jeevandan officials, Azmeera Kumar was on intensive care for over 27 hours at the hospital but the prognosis was not improving. As a result, the attending team of neuro-physicians declared him as brain dead due to severe head injury.
The doctors, organ donation volunteers from the hospital and members from Jeevandan grief counselled the family members of the Azmeera Kumar including his wife Azmeera Kaili and two sons Prabhudeva (24 years) and Balraj (20 years).
The wife and children consented to donate organs of the deceased and surgeons retrieved two kidneys, liver and two corneas (in all five organs) for organ donation. The Jeevandan officials appreciated the gesture of the family members of Azmeera Kumar, which has helped give a new lease of life to needy patients who are waiting for donor organs.
