Hyderabad: Family members of a 56-year-old tailor, Thumma Ramakrishna, a resident of Jawahar Nagar, Godavarikahani, Peddapalli, who was declared brain dead by attending doctors, have decided to donate organs of the deceased to needy patients as part of State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.

On Thursday, June 26, Ramakrishna complained of giddiness and collapsed at his home. The family members immediately shifted him to a private hospital in Hyderabad. After emergency treatment in the ICU facility, the patient’s health condition did not improve. The attending team of doctors declared him brain dead at 4.15 pm on Sunday, June 29.

The immediate family members of the tailor, including his wife Thumma Rajanirmala, gave consent to donate his kidneys and liver and help three patients in need. The surgeons from the hospital, where he was declared brain dead, retrieved the liver (01) and kidneys (02) and allocated them to patients based on the Jeevandan organ donation guidelines.
