Hyderabad: Youngistaan Foundation with the support of UNICEF distributed over 1,500 hand hygiene kits to nearly 60 garbage collectors in Hyderabad who are vulnerable to getting infected with Covid-19 while they visit house-to-house for garbage collection.
Each hand hygiene kit that was distributed included two liquid hand wash bottles, one antiseptic liquid bottle, a pair of latex hand gloves to collect garbage, three detergent soaps, four reusable masks, one nail cutter and communication materials on Covid-19 precautionary measures, a press release said.
The distribution of hygiene kits to the garbage collectors was taken up at Charminar on Monday in the presence of local public representatives, officials from GHMC, UNICEF and Youngistaan Foundation.
Bandaru Dattatreya, Governor, Haryana, who was the chief guest, appreciated the efforts of UNICEF, Youngistaan Foundation and GHMC. “Distributing the hygiene kits with soaps, gloves, masks and sanitisers to common people will not prevent Covid-19 but will also inculcate in them hygiene habits,” he said.
Venkatesh Aralikatty, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Specialist, UNICEF Hyderabad said that the hygiene kits will inculcate a habit of washing hands and preventing infection from Covid-19 among the vulnerable community.
