Hyderabad: Over 2,000 caught for drunk driving between July and August
According to the traffic officials, special drives were conducted across the city to curb drunk driving between July 1 and August 20, and a total of 1,670 charge sheets were filed
Hyderabad: Continuing special drives against drunk driving in the city, Hyderabad Traffic Police have caught as many as 2,056 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol in July and August until now. While the courts imposed a fine of over Rs 1.70 crore on the violators, the driving licence of one person was permanently cancelled.
According to the traffic officials, special drives were conducted across the city to curb drunk driving between July 1 and August 20, and a total of 1,670 charge sheets were filed against them and they were produced before courts.
“In this regard, courts awarded punishment of stand till the rising of the court to three persons and permanently cancelled the driving licence of one person. The courts imposed a total fine of over Rs 1.70 crore on 1,666 persons. Remaining 386 violators will also be produced before the courts concerned, after filing charge sheet against them,”said Anil Kumar, Additional Commissioner (Traffic) Hyderabad.
Officials said those convicted in drunk driving cases and other traffic violations may face difficulties in securing government jobs, passports or visa clearance.
“Citizens should know that if anyone is involved in fatal road crashes in an inebriated condition, the insurance will not be covered as per the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority of India rules. Similarly, in the case of injury or death while triple riding, the insurance will not be covered as well,”Anil Kumar said.
